Residents dodge gunfire after blaze destroys homes

AS GUNFIRE continued to spread in Overcome Heights, community workers risked their lives to help fire victims following a devastating blaze which left 150 people homeless.

A fire broke out on Thursday, destroying about 45 structures.
Strong winds fanned flames over the Cape, with firefighters attending to fires in Capri Village, Khayelitsha and Witsands.
In Khayelitsha, 300 people were displaced, and in Witsands, where 10 informal structures were damaged by fire, 32 residents lost their homes.
The City's Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Charlotte Powell said: “The Disaster Risk Management Centre has completed assessments of fires that occurred in Khayelitsha and Witsands (Thursday).
