BREWERS boss Gary Bowyer admits he would have wanted their postponed match with Exeter City to have gone ahead as planned but understands the decision to call it off.

The Saturday lunchtime game was postponed earlier in the week due to a fire at the hosts’ stadium and will be rearranged in due course.

Reflecting on the announcement, he told BBC Derby: “From a footballing point of view, the form that we're in and obviously from the momentum of last week’s wonderful win against Blackpool, we would have wanted the game on but obviously we understand the terrible circumstances and it's great to see that everybody is rallying round Exeter to help them with that.

“We fully understand. There’s no problem with that. But separate from that, at a footballing point of view, we'd have loved the game on.

“The one good thing is we would have gone down on a Friday and we're not now going down on a Friday when there's all the weekend traffic. We'll do the preparation properly, go down on a Monday night (for most likely a Tuesday night game) and I'm sure it'll get rearranged for the new year now.
