'Ghost town' Parking fees halved takings, says trader

KINGSWOOD has become a “ghost town” according to a local trader who shut up shop at the weekend.
Mark’s Mobile Butchers Shop, which was originally operated as a mobile meat van before moving into a permanent site in the indoor market, blamed the recent introduction of parking charges in South Gloucestershire.
A spokesman said: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that we will be closing our shop in the market.
“Since the council introduced parking charges, Kingswood has become like a ghost town.
“Unfortunately, this has had a serious impact on our business - our takings have been cut in half over the past few weeks, making it unsustainable to continue trading there.
“But we're not going anywhere completely. You can still find us at The Concorde Pub, Stockwood (Wednesdays, 8am to 2pm) and Yate Shopping Centre (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (8am to 2pm).
“Thank you all so much for your continued support - it truly means the world to us.”
