A lot can change in 2nd half of season

The major online sports outfits in America have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous when it comes to premature NFL judgments.

Case in point: After the Detroit Lions dropped their opener to the Green Bay Packers, one outlet screamed out the headline "Is the Lions run over?"

Isn't it more than a tad early to intimate the defending NFC North champs' burgeoning dynasty might be finished after just a single loss?

Sure enough, the Lions rebounded in Week 2 to demolish the Chicago Bears 52-21. Detroit are currently 5-2 in the tight NFC North race, a halfgame behind first place Green Bay.

So much for the veracity of this early demise rumour.

That's the nature of most of today's sports media, though, which never had much patience to begin with.
