The Sri Lanka Police has evolved to counter the LTTE threat in all areas of the country especially in the City of Colombo. The Sri Lanka Police is entrusted with the test of maintaining Law and Order in the country. As the main law enforcement agency, the Police Force has evolved to counter the LTTE threat in all areas including but not limited to the City of Colombo. Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickramaratna is the strength behind the Intelligence Wings under his command.
When the humanitarian operations in the North and East commenced, many thought that Colombo would be on fire. Yet, the Security Forces have successfully thwarted many plans hatched by the LTTE to attach major economic hubs and important places in Colombo. Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Nimal Mediwake, who is in charge of Western Province, traffic management, field office Head Quarters and Western Province Operations reveals the various measures taken to protect the Capital and to ensure that the daily lives in Colombo continue without any impediments.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is the main investigative arm of the Police Department and it conducts investigations into major crimes and cases of National importance. The Deputy Inspector General of Police of the CID, Sisira Mendis spoke about the contribution of the CID in countering terrorism in Colombo and some of the high profile investigations they are conducting in this sphere.
As one of the strongest nationalist voices of Sri Lanka, Udaya Gammanpila has played a pivotal role in reestablishing the country's faith in defeating terrorism.
