This first edition of the hellobali Guide to Bali series is both broad and specific. It covers many facets of Bali and it explores each one so comprehensively that even some of us who are familiar with a lot of things about the island will find it insightful. The one fundamental danger with producing a guidebook is its editor’s tendency to treat certain things with a considerable amount of levity and therefore, leaving the book too thin in its content quality. Hopefully, we have not. I personally find the first part of this book to be a beautiful reading experience. The editor of this guidebook has managed to assemble a group of writers who are clearly not only knowledgeable about Bali but also passionate. The second part of the book, while perhaps carrying less flair than the first part, is very informative, and therefore highly useful for anyone who wants to navigate their way around the island well.
