The BMW X2 xDrive25e takes the game further for the Bavarian giant with a next-generation plug-in hybrid powertrain high on pep and higher on efficiency.
The all-new BMW X2 xDrive25e brings a unique combination of smart design and a versatile sportiness backed by modern electrified technology. The new X2 xDrive25e is set for market introduction this month from €47,250 (Rs 40 lakh).
BMW have continued to develop more advanced electrified technologies, including the recent move of all four- and six-cylinder engines to 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, with a slew of smart plug-in hybrid models – the 330e, 530e and even the magnificent 745Le xDrive we tested here in India.
The new BMW X2 xDrive25e sports an attractive new design and features equipment also available for the conventionally powered variants of the compact model. The new front design has taut surfaces without fog lights, and a new exterior colour: Phytonic Blue metallic. The LED headlights are now standard with integrated bad-weather light. There’s also a Business package that provides real-time traffic information.
The new BMW X2 xDrive25e features the latest, fourth-generation BMW eDrive technology developed for plug-in hybrid models. It has a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine, with 125 hp and 220 Nm, driving the front wheels through a six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The smarter bit is at the rear, where sits a 70-kW motor, capable of 95 hp and 165 Nm. It drives the rear wheels via a separate automatic transmission – a set-up earlier seen in the BMW 225xe Active Tourer iPerformance model. The combined output is 220 hp and 385 Nm – significant for a compact vehicle. A 10-kWh battery pack with a usable 8.8-kWh powers the rear motor.
The BMW X2 xDrive25e will get from zero to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and get up to 135 km/h on electric power alone, or 195 km/h in hybrid mode. Fuel efficiency in hybrid mode goes up to a high of 58.8 km/l with CO2 emissions as low as 38 g/km, all WLTP (Worldwide-harmonized Light-vehicle Test Procedure).
An extensive range of BMW Charging eases comfort when the new BMW X2 xDrive25e needs electric juice. The available features enable the user to conduct a major share of everyday travel locally using the emission-free electric motor. The optional BMW i Wallbox allows complete charging of the fully discharged high-voltage battery in just over three hours. In addition, the BMW Charging card offers convenient access to the world’s largest network of public charging stations.
