India Coronavirus Latest Update: With the latest Corona virus death in Kashmir, India's death toll jumped to 14
Srinagar: A 65-year-old man died in a Srinagar hospital after he was tested positive for Covid-19 two days ago, this being the first Coronavirus related death in Kashmir.
Rohit Kansal, J&K government spokesman had on Wednesday said four more persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir raising the number of infected patients to eight.
"Four more persons, all from Bandipora, tested positive today. Preliminary findings suggest they were close contacts of Srinagar patient who tested positive yesterday. All five reported to have participated in a religious event", Kansal said on Wednesday.
Kansal did not give more details about the religious event. However, local media reports said, these Coronavirus positive patients recently attended a Tablighi Jamaat which also had people from Indonesia and Malaysia. One of them, a resident of Hyderpora Srinagar, died on Thursday.
"The Coronavirus positive patient at Chest Disease Hospital died after suffering a cardiac arrest. The patient had medical history of prolonged illness with diabetes, hypertension and obesity," they said.
This is another instance of Coronavirus infection linking with the Tablighi Jamaat. Four days ago as many as 10 Indonesians who were part of Tablighi Jamaat in Karimnagar, Telangana were tested positive for Coronavirus.
A fortnight ago about 40 Malaysians were diagnosed of Coronavirus after attending the Tabligh gathering at Sri Petaling Mosque.
With the latest Corona virus death in Kashmir, India's death toll jumped to 14. The total Covid-19 infection Wednseady had crossed 600 mark even as the country is observing 21-day lockdown starting Tuesday mid-night.
