What's the fascination with FOXY KNOXY"?

With a drama series based on the story of Amanda Knox set to air this month, we look at why the world is so obsessed with her

We all remember the horrific murder of British exchange student Meredith Kercher, who was sexually assaulted and stabbed in her bedroom while studying in Perugia, Italy, in November 2007.

It was hard to escape the media frenzy as attention switched from Meredith, 21, to her American roommate Amanda Knox, then 20, when her bizarre behaviour - including doing a cartwheel at the police station and kissing her boyfriend outside the crime scene - led to suspicion falling on her. Years of convictions and acquittals followed. Knox was ultimately cleared, while petty criminal and drifter Rudy Guede, whose bloodstained fingerprints were found at the scene, served 13 years for the murder. But the question remains why Meredith's death is constantly overshadowed by the publicity and controversy surrounding Amanda Knox. First she published a memoir, then she took part in a Netflix documentary about the case. And now the 38-year-old has co-produced an eight-episode drama series (The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is set to launch on 20 August on Disney+) focused on her lengthy legal battle.

Meredith's sister Stephanie Kercher has said her family find it 'difficult to understand' how the series serves any purpose. So what is it about Amanda Knox that keeps us so fascinated? Woman investigates.
