Wotton after fresh blood as Torquay bow out of Trophy
Western Morning News
|November 17, 2025
PAUL Wotton is trying to strengthen Torquay United’s squad ahead of next weekend's home game against Eastbourne Borough, after the Gulls were dumped out of this season’s FA Trophy by Maidstone United.
Two goals in five minutes in the first half of the 2-0 defeat ended Torquay’s involvement in a competition that can become a bit of a problem if you get too far when you are also fighting for promotion so the National League South race remains the aim, and without a possible clutter of fixtures later in the season.
However, Wotton will have wanted to win the game to keep up the momentum after two good away wins in the National South, and with three tough games on the horizon - Eastbourne at home on Saturday, Worthing at home the following Tuesday, and Chelmsford City away on Saturday, November 29 - the road to December is has all the ingredients of being a bumpy one.
