Argyle dealt injury blow ahead of new season opener

PLYMOUTH Argyle are exploring permanent and loan deals as they look to sign a new centre-back after Julio Pleguezuelo suffered an injury setback.

The Spanish defender had not played in preseason due to a knee issue until he came on as a 67th minute substitute in the final warm-up match against Bristol City at Home Park last Saturday.

However, he suffered a reaction to that and now faces further time out of action.

It leaves the Pilgrims with only three fit and available experienced centre-backs - Brendan Galloway, Victor Palsson and Kornel Szucs.

Head coach Tom Cleverley said: “Unfortunately, Pleggy has had a setback. We think he will have to have a procedure to see what's going on with his knee. ‘That leaves us light in the defensive positions so that's an area of the pitch we are looking to strengthen”

Shedding a PM’s blood won’t stop the harvest failing

THE question occupying many minds - why, by the end of 2026, the UK will have had seven Prime Ministers (possibly more) in a little over 10 years - will remain without an answer as long as journalists persist in seeking one from psephologists, politicians and their fellow hacks and not, as they ought, from anthropologists.
