THE NHS in Wales and the UK is under pressure.

Jacqueline Totterdell, the new NHS chief executive for Wales, is crossing the border from England at a difficult time for the health services, but many of the issues in her inbox will be familiar. Lack of cash, rising demand, longer waiting-lists, an ageing population and workforce shortages - it's a Groundhog Day list.
‘Then the geography of Wales brings added pressure and cost. Rural populations may find it harder to get social care, impacting hospital discharges. ‘These populations also live further from health services, with distance placing an extra burden on ambulances as well as staff recruitment and retention.
