Senior hospital nurse has sexual assault conviction

NHS staff have voiced concern over a Welsh hospital's employment of a nurse who sexually assaulted an ambulance worker at a music festival.

Rachel Williams was sentenced to a community order in 2019 after admitting a sex attack, but she was not struck off the nursing register and has reportedly been promoted twice in recent years to become a senior nurse in intensive care at Merthyr Tydfil’s Prince Charles Hospital.

Sources at the hospital told the Western Mail they felt uncomfortable working alongside Ms Williams because of her past.

Stafford Crown Court confirmed the then-36-year-old was sentenced in March 2019 to a six-month community order with 120 hours of unpaid work for a sexual assault.

At the time, it was reported that the offence took place in August 2017 at V Festival in Staffordshire, where she was off-duty when she reportedly grabbed a female ambulance technician’s clothing over the groin and made an obscene comment.

‘The victim had been trying to help Ms Williams because she had appeared intoxicated, the court heard.
