A DRUGGED-UP man pulled out a kitchen knife and threatened to kill a paramedic who attempted to assist him after he had become unconscious.

He told her: "I am going to kill you and cut you up."

Jordan Wright, 28, was treated by a paramedic and an assistant after he was found lying unconscious in the street in Tonteg, near Pontypridd, on July 9.

He was believed to be under the influence of drugs and an IV was implemented in order to administer naloxone, a medication used to reduce the effects of opioids.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard the defendant woke up suddenly and began swinging his arms while telling the paramedics: "Get away from me. Don't f****** touch me."

They tried to calm him down, but Wright's behaviour continued to be "violent, erratic, and unpredictable".

He ripped off his oxygen mask and threw the paramedics' equipment around, before throwing a canister of oxygen at the floor, causing it to leak flammable gas.

The defendant ripped the cannula from his arm, which caused him to bleed and spray blood over the medical equipment.

He repeatedly shouted at paramedics: "You better give me back my f****** phone" as they tried to explain it was in his bag.
