Juror's refusal to serve was 'simply unacceptable'

A JUROR falsely claimed to know potential witnesses in an attempt to avoid having to sit through a long trial, a court has been told.

Patricia Brewer, 67, from Camborne, was called up to attend a two-week trial at Truro Crown Court on June 9 but the next day she refused to engage with the jury service and invented possible connections with some witnesses.

She said it was because she felt anxious about carrying out jury service and no longer wanted to do it.

Before the trial began Brewer and the other 11 jurors were given a list of named individuals connected to the case they were to try.
