At a time when cities across India, including Kolkata and its northern and southern suburbs, are struggling to breathe under the burden of mounting municipal solid waste, Jabalpur, MP has emerged as a notable success story in scientific waste management and clean energy generation.
The Jabalpur Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)-based Waste-to-Energy plant, located at Kathonda village on the outskirts of the city, has become one of India’s most successful examples of converting urban garbage into electricity. What was once considered a civic burden has now been transformed into a valuable energy resource, strengthening both the city’s sanitation system and its financial sustainability.
