AN outdated newspaper clipping has thrown the Palakkad Head Post Office into a whirlwind of confusion, with desperate devotees flooding in to book Tirupati Darshan passes — only to be met with disappointment.
The decades-old cutting, written in Malayalam, has resurfaced across WhatsApp groups, viral reels, and 'latest news' videos, fuelling a frenzy among pilgrims eager to secure their slots for the sacred Tirumala temple visit. Unaware that the service had been discontinued during the pandemic, at least 50 elderly devotees turned up at the post office on Monday, hopeful yet unaware that their journey was in vain.
"We had a tough time explaining that the facility no longer exists. Many were heartbroken, some pleaded with us to reinstate it, but that's beyond our control," said a senior officer at the Palakkad Head Post Office.
