Wild jumbo falls in septic tank in Thrissur dist, dies

Bid to escape proved futile due to tank's depth and narrow width
A sub-adult wild elephant (between 10 and 14 years old) died after falling in an unused septic tank at Elikkode near Palappilly in Thrissur's Varandarappilly panchayat on Thursday. Though forest officials initiated rescue operations, the jumbo succumbed to injuries it suffered in the fall before it could be saved.
The presence of a large herd of wild jumbos, all making noises, in the area in the morning had panicked residents initially. However, when the herd moved away after a while, the people heard the desperate cries of another elephant.
