Nine panchayats opposing merger, govt will take final call: CCMC commissioner

WITH people from several municipalities and other local bodies opposing the government's proposal to merge them with Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) citing several reasons such as increase in tax and loss of MGNREGA jobs, the CCMC commissioner said the feedback will be submitted as a report to the minister and department secretary.
Besides the objections, people opposing the merger plan pointed out that the areas that were annexed to CCMC in 2011 still lacked basic amenities and other infrastructure facilities.
