Village in shock after woman is found dead

PEOPLE living in a usually quiet village told of their shock after a woman was found dead in her home.

The peace on Castle Street in Hazlerigg, near Newcastle, was shattered on Monday when "swarms of police" arrived at the scene.

Officers say a woman in her 50s was pronounced dead at a bungalow on the street at around midday. Neighbours watched on as forensics officers in white overalls spent hours searching the property. Northumbria Police says that the woman's death is being treated as “unexplained”.
