Winter smog worsens UP air quality
The Free Press Journal - Mumbai
|November 28, 2025
Several districts in Uttar Pradesh are experiencing hazardous air quality conditions as winter intensifies, with pollution levels rising sharply across the NCR-connected belt.
Hapur, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Meerut remain the worst affected, with daily AQI values frequently surpassing 300 and, in some locations, reaching as high as 500. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, Hapur has recorded an AQI of over 485, placing it in the ‘severe’ category. Experts note that such levels pose a health risk even to otherwise healthy individuals.
