|November 03, 2025
Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is one of the most significant festivals for Sikhs and people across India who revere the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikhism. The festival celebrates his birth and commemorates his life, teachings, and philosophy, which continue to inspire millions worldwide. In 2025, Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 5, aligning with the full moon of Kartik month, a time considered spiritually auspicious for reflection, devotion, and community service.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469 in Talwandi, now located in Pakistan, to Mata Tripta and Mehta Kalu. From an early age, he exhibited extraordinary spiritual insight, questioning social injustices and emphasizing the need for devotion to one God. He traveled extensively across India and beyond, spreading his message of equality, compassion, selfless service, and devotion to God. His teachings form the foundation of Sikhism and are preserved in the Guru Granth Sahib, the central religious scripture of the Sikhs.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji's principles focus on three pillars: Naam Japna (remembering God through meditation and prayer), Kirat Karna (earning an honest living), and Vand Chhakna (sharing one's earnings with others and serving the community). These teachings emphasize that spiritual fulfillment comes from ethical living, selfless service, and devotion, rather than ritualistic practices alone.
