Eye ailments surge 60% as Delhi chokes on smog’

Delhi's air quality remained in the very poor category after Diwali, leading ophthalmologists across the capital to see a sharp 60% increase in eye-related problems.

The thick haze and dangerous levels of pollution have led to a rise in eye allergies, dryness, irritation, and excessive watering, affecting both adults and children. Doctors say the toxic mix of smoke, particles, and chemical residues released during firecracker burning is harmful not only to the lungs but also to the eyes.

Dr. Harbansh Lal, Chairman and Head of the Delhi Eye Centre, said, “Every year after Diwali, we experience a surge in eye complaints.
