HIRED GUNS: LATEST VICTIM WORKING ON CASES INVOLVING PONZI SCHEME
The insolvency lawyer who was gunned down at his office in Johannesburg on Friday had received death threats in the days before his murder.
He was reportedly working on a business rescue case involving a large ponzi scheme.
Bouwer van Niekerk was shot in what is believed to be a targeted attack on those standing up to criminal elements.
Van Niekerk had previously worked on a case involving the Guptas and had spoken out against the murders of Babita Deokaran, as well as Cloete and Thomas Murray.
Deokaran was a whistle-blower murdered after reporting corruption in the Gauteng department of health, where she was the acting chief financial officer.
Father and son liquidators Thomas and Cloete Murray were gunned down on the N1 near Johannesburg on 19 March, 2023.
Thomas Murray was the liquidator of 12 Infiniti Innovations, a company linked to vast sums looted through state capture networks.
The Murrays were securing assets tied to this case when they were murdered.
