Safa blunder a crying shame

Last week, the South African Football Association finally confirmed Fifa has opened an investigation into the eligibility of midfielder Teboho Mokoena to play for Bafana Bafana in a World Cup qualifier against Lesotho in March.

One has to admire the dramatic legalese. After all, it is hardly going to require the skills of Hercule Poirot or Sherlock Holmes to figure this one out. Mokoena played in the 2-0 win against Lesotho when he was not supposed to, having already accumulated two yellow cards in World Cup qualifying Group C. The Fifa rules are clear on this, as is the punishment ~ Bafana are set to have that result reversed to a 3-0 win for Lesotho.

How did Safa not pick up that Mokoena was supposed to be suspended for the Lesotho game?
