India-UK FTA 20 of 26 chapters nearing completion

In an update on the ongoing negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the United Kingdom, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, expressed positivity regarding the progress made. Goyal highlighted that nearly 20 out of the 26 chapters of the agreement have been successfully closed.

"We've had multiple rounds of negotiations with the UK. Currently, we are actively engaged in discussions on various fronts. The Free Trade Agreement has concluded almost 20 out of 26 chapters. Among the remaining issues, none pose an insurmountable challenge. Free Trade Agreements involve predicting the future," the Union Minister mentioned.
Goyal stressed the critical aspect of crafting such agreements with foresight, emphasizing the necessity to gauge the agreement's implications over decades.
"Assessing how the agreement will unfold 20, 30, 50 years ahead is crucial. They are meticulously designed. Rushing into a free trade Goyal explained.
