Residents enjoy celebrations in VE Day 80th anniversary

A 98-YEAR-OLD resident who celebrated VE Day in Sevenoaks in 1945 was among more than 1,000 people who got together to mark 80 years since the end of the conflict in Europe.

The event at the Vine Gardens last Thursday, organised by Sevenoaks Town Council, began at 6.30pm as the crowd enjoyed a free concert on the bandstand. The talented Jean Bentley Orchestra entertained the crowd with played war-time tunes. Many of those who took part went with flags, bunting, chairs, tables and picnics to make the most of the beautiful spring evening.
