Blood at scene helped lead police to burglars

BURGLARS who targeted homes in Sevenoaks were caught after police recovered DNA from blood left at crime scenes and matched footwear patterns.
Drilon Merkohitoj and Ervis Vela have been jailed for a string of offences in the Kent town, and in a number of areas of Surrey.
They travelled miles to carry out their offences, stealing thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and valuables.
The investigation began when a DNA match was found on a snood recovered from a vehicle.
From there, a trail of evidence was uncovered - including blood smears left at crime scenes, CCTV footage, matching footwear patterns, ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) hits, and mobile phone signal tracking.
