Fury at order to tear down £180k garden bungalow

OUTRAGED Mark Jones has been ordered to tear down a £180,000 bungalow he built in his back garden for his sick father to live in — but without planning consent.

He replaced a garage with the 900 sq ft two-bed annexe with gravel drive and hooked it up to the electricity, water and internet at his £355,000 house in 2019.

The IT engineer, 55, says he believed it fell within permitted development rules so did not apply for council permission.

In the event, his dad Tony, 71, died from bowel cancer months after the bungalow was completed and Mark’s adult daughter and boyfriend lived there during Covid lockdowns.

But three neighbours in Sutton Coldfield, West Mids, complained the whitewashed home was “over-intensive” development.
