Planning changes agreed as wharf scheme start set

PREPARATION work will begin in September for the major regeneration of a historic waterfront location in Bideford which has been derelict for four decades.

Red Earth's plan for Brunswick Wharf at East-the-Water, which received planning permission last year, includes more than 100 homes, boutique retail units, a restaurant and quayside walkway, public square and car parking.

The developer says it is investing more than £30 million and expects construction to take three years.

Morgan Sindall was appointed as the main contractor in April.

Torridge District Council's planning committee agreed modifications to the scheme last week to enclose apartment balconies along the riverside frontage rather than having them projected, and design improvements to better replicate warehouse-style buildings.
