Catching a cold
The summer ended in a rush thanks to unseasonal rains. But that left air conditioner sales suffering in the typically strong June quarter.
In an analyst meet, Voltas Ltd said room air conditioner volumes dropped 20-25% year-on-year in April and May for it and the industry. Voltas' unitary cooling products segment, comprising room air conditioners, contributed 69% of its revenue in 2024-25. Some recovery was seen in June in parts of north India.
But with channel inventory at 6-8 weeks and weak secondary demand, the industry is tracking below expectations in the April-June first quarter (Q1FY26). The industry is offering free installation and bundled deals to move stock, raising the risk of discounting.
