As the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir gears up for Assembly elections, the Congress and National Conference (NC) have formalised a pre-poll alliance. This marks the first time since 1987 that these two parties have joined forces in the region. The alliance was finalised after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited NC leader Farooq Abdullah’s residence in Srinagar on Thursday.

Well-placed sources said that despite challenges related to seat-sharing, both parties are committed to making the alliance work. Sources also indicated that negotiators from both sides are working on a formula to satisfy both parties. formula to satisfy both parties.
