Scene is set for shy bugs to return to bog spotlight

IN Manchester's peat bogs, big plans are afoot for three tiny and shy species.

Right now, three important but small bugs are waiting to make a comeback in style - the large heath butterfly, bog bush cricket and white-faced darter dragonfly.

These insects once thrived in our peatlands. In fact, the large heath butterfly was so associated with our local area that it was known as the 'Manchester argus' before becoming extinct in Greater Manchester for nearly 150 years.

We've already had some success reintroducing the large heath butterfly, by using an existing population from Winmarleigh Moss.
