Police stop-search powers extended after teen shooting

OFFICERS have used increased stop-and-search powers for another 24 hours after a teenager was shot in the chest.

Greater Manchester Police says a 16-year-old boy was shot after being attacked by ‘approximately 14 males’ in Langdale Avenue, Stretford, on Thursday.

The incident unfolded at 4.30pm while children were playing on the street, police said. The boy was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

GMP has since arrested two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, on suspicion of attempted murder. In response to the incident, the force issued a section 60 stop-and-search order across parts of Stretford.

The original order ran until 3pm yesterday, but it has since been extended for another 24 hours.
