Daredevil in world first dive from Dursey Island attraction into sea

A COLOMBIAN diver became the first in the world to complete a plunge from a cable car yesterday.

Cliff diving supremo Orlando Duque took part in the spectacular 24-metre dive from the Dursey Island Cable Car in West Cork into the Atlantic.

The cable car is suspended between the mainland and Dursey Island and is the only one in Europe which crosses open sea water.

The Red Bull Cliff Diving champion said the jump was unlike anything he’s ever done before.

The 51-year-old explained: “The cable car itself is so unique. To have the opportunity to dive from it was something special.

“I've jumped off a lot of things during my career, but a cable car is definitely a first for me.
