Micheal's scathed by Fianna Fail-out

'Unlikely to lead party in next general election'

TAOISEACH Micheal Martin is unlikely to lead Fianna Fail in the next general election, backbenchers have said.

It's understood 10 members of the parliamentary party want to hold a motion of no-confidence in the leader after a “disastrous” presidential campaign.

However, sources say it is not likely a new leadership will emerge in the short-term. Conversations now surround whether he will leave when Ireland is finished with the EU presidency in December 2026.

Fianna Fáil parliamentary party members are even discussing Mr Martin's leadership publicly, as many are angry at the embarrassment the party faced following the Áras race.
