Martin still sorry after Gavin fiasco

TAOISEACH Micheal Martin has again said he is “deeply sorry” for how Fianna Fail candidate Jim Gavin fared during the presidential race.

The former Dublin GAA manager withdrew a week ago after a tenant claimed he tried to recover €3,300 in overpaid rent from him 16 years ago.

Speaking at a Fianna Fail event in Dublin on Saturday, Mr Martin added: “I've been speaking to people close to Jim. He is having time with himself and his family and I think that should be respected.

“I think it's been very traumatic for him and very difficult for him and for his family and I'm very conscious and aware of that.
