WE hear a lot about Ireland's unprotected coastlines being wide open to drug cartels.

And now the Gardai want the public to help police some of the remotest stretches.

It follows the resurrection of a previous coastal community watch scheme in Co Donegal.

Coastal Watch Donegal - a multi-agency initiative involving the Gardai, the Irish Naval Service and Revenue's Customs Service - was reborn this week at the Coast Guard Station in Killybegs.
