ONE county in Ireland has been named as one of the best regions in the world to visit by a renowned travel guide.

- BY RUAIRI SCOTT BYRNE

Lonely Planet has unveiled its top destinations and experiences for the coming year with the release of its new Best in Travel 2026 book, featuring a list of 25 great places and 25 great experiences to try out in the year ahead.

The newly published book sees Lonely Planet's team of travel experts recommend where to go and what to do in 2026, illustrated with colourful photography, essays and local advice for exploring each place.

The different destinations are chosen for their culture, adventure, and beauty, with Co Tipperary listed among the “must-visit destinations” for 2026.

The Premier County was chosen for its stunning landscape, remarkable farm-to-table culinary scene and iconic castles as it was named the destination “best for hiking, history and fine food”.

Lonely Planet says that “In Tipperary, the food is remarkable, the landscapes are generous, and the castles are so casually scattered across the county that you'll probably stumble across one on your way to dinner.

“This is the Ireland of postcards, yes, but it’s also a place with a few surprises”.
