Liverpool starlet Kone-Doherty determined to realise his dream of playing for Ireland

- BY MARK McCADDEN

LIVERPOOL teenager Trent Kone-Doherty says it would be a “dream” to one day pull on the Ireland jersey at senior international level.

The 19-year-old prospect is highly rated at Anfield and has already made his first-team debut as a substitute in last season's FA Cup defeat to Plymouth.

While it was one of the big upsets in recent times, Kone-Doherty made the most of his short time on the pitch by impressing with his attacking skills.

Now a regular member of the Reds’ under-21 side, the forward has made a strong start to the new season and regularly trains with the first-team squad.

Last week he scored twice for Liverpool’s under-19s as they saw off Eintracht Frankfurt in a thrilling 5-4 encounter in the UEFA Youth League.

The former Derry City starlet won his first Ireland under-21 cap in the September win against Andorra but would love to make the step up to the seniors.
