'Vast majority' of homes reconnected Inland weather warning has lapsed

THE "vast majority" of homes without power in the aftermath of Storm Amy were expected to be reconnected last night, the ESB said.

The State electricity network said only remote and difficult to reach places would remain without power into today.

All inland weather warnings from the storm have now lapsed with the weather outlook for the coming week good with plenty of sunshine.

Most of the outages were in Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Galway and Mayo but repair teams were working around the clock and by 5pm yesterday had reduced the number to 6,000 - down from 49,000 early that morning.

Repairs will be made easier as Met Eireann has forecast relatively good "settled" weather for the coming week with high pressure dominating bringing plenty of sunshine and very little in the way of rain.

Yesterday the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management held a further meeting of the National Severe Weather Humanitarian Group.
