DUNLOY won the Antrim SFC title for the first time in 89 years after beating Cargin by 3-12 to 2-6 in the decider at Corrigan Park in Belfast.

- BY KEN O'CONNOR

The new champions led by 1-5 to 1-3 at the break as they sought to bridge a gap back to 1936 against a side looking for a fourth successive county title.

A Nigel Elliott goal and a Sean Elliott penalty put Dunloy firmly in control in the opening part of the second half and they were not to be caught even after Michael McCann converted his penalty for Cargin.

“I can't fathom how we've gone 89 years without winning a senior football title as we've had some great footballers in Dunloy over the years and some great teams,” said boss Anthony McQuillan.

“This group of players have stuck together for a long time. When a lot of those boys were 16, some said they'd never play (football) after minor and then after minor, they said they'd never win an Intermediate Championship.
