COPS TO KEEP PRESSURE ON BURGLARY GANGS

A SENIOR garda has vowed officers will continue to crack down on burglary gangs- as figures showed a major reduction in the crime.

"We are determined to make Ireland a hostile environment for them," Detective Chief Superintendent Seamus Boland, the head of the force's Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, said yesterday.

He was speaking at the launch of the winter phase of Operation Thor - the Gardai’s ongoing anti-burglary operation - and also revealed his officers were targeting at least seven organised burglary gangs working around the country.
