THE LAW IS AIMED AT ENSURING BALANCED DEVELOPMENT AND PROTECTION OF THE STATE'S FRAGILE ECOLOGY
The Uttarakhand Wednesday cabinet on approved a new land law prohibiting the sale of agriculture land to people from outside the state, except in the Uddham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts where such sales would need to be approved by the state government.
The law is aimed at ensuring balanced development and protection of the hill state's fragile ecology. To be sure, it will also restrict sale of land to people from outside the state.
The new land law was cleared in the cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday and is likely to be tabled in budget session of the state assembly session which started this week.
One of the key changes is that even in the two districts where land sales are allowed to outsiders, district magistrates will no longer be able to approve them.
