TAFEGHAGHTE, MOROCCO: Moroccans on Sunday mourned the victims of a devastating earthquake that killed more. than 2,100 people as rescue teams raced to find survivors trapped under the rubble of flattened villages.
The powerful earthquake that hit Morocco over the weekend has killed at least 2,122 people, according to the latest figures issued on Sunday by the interior ministry.
It also reported 2,421 injured, many of them in critical condition. The United Nations estimated that 300,000 people were affected by Friday night's magnitude 6.8 quake.
The damage done to Morocco's cultural heritage became more evident as local media reported the collapse of a historically porta 12th century mosque. The quake also damaged parts of Marrakesh old city, a Unesco World Heritage site.
