Excavation begins at well site in Sambhal in relation to ’78 riots

The authorities on Wednesday began the excavation at the site of a well located in the main market near the Ekta Police outpost in the Sambhal Kotwali area, which is suspected to be connected with the 1978 riots in the district, officials familiar with the matter said.

Local residents and the family of Ramsharan Rastogi, a grocery trader, believe that 47 years ago, Rastogi was murdered and his body was disposed of in this well during the riots.
