Meerut accused played on lover's superstition to plan murder: Cops

Police officers investigating the murder of a 29-year-old man in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh said that his wife, a key accused, started planning the murder in November 2024 and exploited the superstitious leanings of her lover to convince him to participate in the crime.

Days after the gruesome crime was uncovered, the mother of the deceased, Saurabh Rajput, has alleged that his six-year-old daughter knew about her father's death and said, "Papa is in the drum". The claim was dismissed by the police, who said that the girl might have known about it after the gory incident came to light.

The accused were identified as Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla — both 27 — who killed Saurabh, who worked in the merchant navy, dismembered the body, sealed it inside a drum and covered it with cement, SSP Vipin Tada said. The two accused were arrested on Tuesday and remanded in 14-day judicial custody Wednesday.
