28 birds die of H5N1 in Raj since Jan

To mitigate the risk of bird flu spreading to humans, local authorities have restricted access to areas where the birds were found

BARMER: A day after it was confirmed that the six Demoiselle Cranes found dead in the Degri Oran area of Jaisalmer on January 11 were infected with H5N1 avian flu, 14 more of the bird, locally known as Kurjan, were found dead in the same area.

This takes the total toll since January 11 to 28.

Confirming the deaths, joint director of the animal husbandry department in Jaisalmer, Umesh Vragatibar, said that 14 cranes were found dead in Bankalsar village near Mohangarh; he added that six dead cranes were discovered on January 11, two each on January 12 and 13, three on January 15, and one on January 16.
