Fright and flight: cavalry horses charge through London

Chaos as animals throw riders and bolt three miles eastwards, hitting cars and a bus

SEVERAL people were injured today when Household Cavalry horses ran loose through central London, smashing into cars, a taxi and a bus.

The animals are believed to have bolted and thrown their riders, made up of the Life Guards and Blues & Royals, as they were on their daily exercise on Horseguards Parade, Whitehall.

One soldier was seen “screaming in pain” outside the Clermont Hotel on Buckingham Palace Road, while two horses, one which was covered in blood, were filmed racing down Aldwych.

London Ambulance Service said at least four people had been injured at three different locations. Its crews were called to incidents in Buckingham Palace Road, Belgrave Square and the junction of Chancery Lane and Fleet Street to separate reports of incidents with a horse.
