JAMES HAS A BOOK IN HIM

PLAY your cards right at Everton this tea time.

David Moyes knows only points win prizes but isn’t averse to gathering them one at a time if circumstances dictate.

Goal fans could be on short rations, with a belt and braces approach favoured when dangerous Newcastle (5.30pm) roll up.

Everton are no strangers to playing off the back foot and they got a huge result that way at Old Trafford last time out in a game that saw Idrissa Gueye sent off for hitting teammate Michael Keane.

I imagine Toffees boss Moyes would have been appalled at the reaction to a ‘blow’ that wouldn't have knocked the skin of a rice pudding in his day, but he was too busy grinning from ear to ear.

Nothing to smile about with Gueye’s three-game ban, which, rolled into his Africa Cup of Nations commitments, could see him miss 10 Everton games in theory, starting with a visit by the Toon.

Moyes really doesn’t have a like-for-like option for the engine room and the tackling of the Senegal star will be missed.

If that puts some of the onus on the likes of Tim Iroegbunam, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and James Garner to get stuck in even more than usual, cards could be the way to go. All three seem to readily catch the eye of officials.
